Some braces and walking boots can be wiped dry and allowed to air dry. Traditional casts are different. Moisture trapped inside a cast can soften the material, irritate your skin, and create an environment where bacteria can grow. Even if the outside feels dry, the padding underneath may still be damp.
If you're unsure whether your recovery device can safely get wet, or if it becomes soaked, contact your healthcare provider for guidance. Taking care of the problem early may help prevent discomfort and avoid unnecessary delays in your recovery.

That depends on your recovery device and your healthcare provider's instructions. Most traditional casts should stay dry, and many braces, slings, and walking boots are not designed to be soaked. Waterproof protection made for orthopedic recovery may help keep your device dry during bathing.
Contact your healthcare provider for guidance, especially if the inside of the cast feels damp or soaked. Do not place objects inside the cast or use high heat to dry it. A wet cast can damage the material and irritate the skin underneath.
Most walking boots are not waterproof. Rain, puddles, wet grass, and mud can soak the fabric and make the boot uncomfortable. A weatherproof walking boot cover may help protect it when you need to go outside.
Some braces can tolerate light moisture, but many contain fabric, foam, straps, or metal parts that should not be soaked. Check the manufacturer's instructions and follow your healthcare provider's advice before exposing your brace to water.
